Common Questions from Vancouver Homeowners

FAQ for Vancouver Garage Door Co: how to reach us, the areas we cover from Hazel Dell to Ridgefield, and the repair jobs we turn down instead of botching.

How fast can someone come look at a broken spring?

It depends on the day and where you are in the service area, but call (360) 244-7926 and we'll give you a real window, not a vague promise. A broken torsion spring on a double door is one of the more common calls we get, so we usually have a sense of timing before you finish describing the sound it made.

Do you work in Ridgefield or Washougal, or is that too far?

Both are within our service area - Ridgefield sits about 13 miles out and Washougal about the same distance in the other direction. We take calls that far routinely; just mention your address when you call so we can slot the drive time correctly.

My house was built in the early 1990s - is that going to be a problem for parts?

No, that's actually the easiest kind of door for us. A lot of the housing in this area went up between 1977 and 2011, median around 1994, so torsion springs, standard openers, and steel sectional panels from that era are parts we carry or can get without a long wait.

Is there an after-hours number for emergencies?

We don't run a 24-hour line. If your spring breaks at night, the door will hold until morning - it won't open, but it's not dangerous sitting there. Call (360) 244-7926 when we're open and describe what happened; we'll tell you how urgent it actually is.

Will you just tell me to replace the whole door instead of fixing it?

Only when fixing it doesn't make sense - a bent track and cracked jamb from an impact, for instance, where a patch job won't hold. Otherwise we repair what's repairable. We'd rather charge you for one honest visit than sell you a door you didn't need.

Getting Hold of Us

Call (360) 244-7926 and you'll reach the shop, not a dispatch center reading from a script. We're at 9611 NE 117th Ave, Vancouver, WA 98662, and that's where the truck starts its day.

If your door is stuck shut with the car inside, say so when you call. If it's a dead opener and the car's already out, that's a different kind of visit and we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth a same-day slot or can wait.

We don't run a 24-hour line. A torsion spring snapping at 2 a.m. is loud and alarming, but the door isn't going anywhere until morning, and neither should your money on an after-hours surcharge you didn't ask about. Tell us what you hear and see - a loud bang, a cable off the drum, a door that won't budge past six inches - and we can usually tell you over the phone whether it's a spring, a cable, or something in the opener itself before anyone drives out.

Where We Work

  1. Our base is in Vancouver

And we run jobs out through the areas that sit within a short drive of it. Close in, that's Minnehaha, all a couple miles out in different directions. Farther out we still cover Five Corners, Hazel Dell, Orchards, North Sifton-Orchards, Barberton. Past that ring we go as far as Lake Shore, Salmon Creek, Brush Prairie, Mount Vista, Felida, Meadow Glade, Camas, and Hockinson.

  2. At the outer edge of what we'll drive for, we take calls in Dollars Corner, Battle Ground, Cherry Grove, Venersborg, Washougal, Lewisville, and Ridgefield

With La Center and Amboy as the farthest stops on the list. If your address isn't near any of these, ask when you call - it's easier to tell you straight than to quote a job and then eat the drive time.

Work We Turn Down

Most of the housing stock in this service area went up between 1977 and 2011, with the median around 1994, so the bulk of what we see is steel sectional doors on standard torsion hardware - common parts, straightforward fixes. We don't take on jobs where the door or opener is so old or so custom that parts simply aren't made anymore; if that's what you've got, we'll say so rather than string you along on a repair that won't hold.

We also don't do new home construction or rough framing - we work on doors and openers already in place, not the garage bay itself. And if a door has been hit hard enough to bend the track, warp a panel, and crack the jamb, replacement usually makes more financial sense than repair, and we'll tell you that instead of billing for a patch job that fails again in a year.

Winters here stay mild with the occasional freeze, so we're not set up for the kind of ice-locked, sub-zero track work that crews in colder climates handle routinely - it's rare enough here that we don't stock for it.
